Havant man sentenced for Warnford house burglary

A 37-year-old man from Havant has been sentenced to more than two years in prison following a house burglary in Warnford that took place in February, where valuable jewellery and watches of sentimental value were stolen from the empty property.

Shane Parker was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday 13 June, after previously entering a guilty plea to charges of burglary dwelling and theft.

The defendant, who lives on Lockerley Road in Havant, received a prison sentence of two years and four months.

Portsmouth Crown Court was told that Parker broke into a property on Lippen Lane, Warnford, during the weekend of 8-9 February this year. The homeowner was absent when the break-in occurred.

Several items were taken during the burglary, including jewellery and timepieces with sentimental significance.

Forensic examination during the investigation revealed Parker’s DNA on an interior door frame. Following his arrest, Parker subsequently confessed to the crime.

PC Iva Yotova from the Northern Area Crime Team commented: “Burglary can cause devastating and lasting effects on victims. Individuals should feel secure within their own homes.

“This sentence should demonstrate clearly that burglary offences are treated seriously, and we will utilise all available resources to ensure perpetrators face justice.”
