Fleet teenager sentenced to 26 months for car park attack

An 18-year-old from Fleet has been sentenced to 26 months in prison after driving a vehicle at pedestrians and firing an air rifle during a terrifying incident at Gurkha Square car park in March.

Harrison Munday pleaded guilty to multiple charges following the early morning attack on 29 March, which left a man in his twenties with injuries to his foot, hand, and face.

Police received reports at approximately 2am that a motorist had deliberately driven towards a group of people in the Gurkha Square car park. After striking a pedestrian, the driver fired an air rifle from his vehicle before leaving the scene.

Officers responded promptly to the incident and made an arrest shortly afterwards.

Munday, of East Hundreds, Fleet, faced six charges at Winchester Crown Court:

  • Attempt to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to do grievous bodily harm
  • Possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence
  • Possessing an offensive weapon in a public place
  • Possessing a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place
  • Driving a motor vehicle dangerously
  • Possessing a controlled drug of Class B

The 18-year-old admitted guilt to all charges and received a total sentence of 26 months on Friday 13 June.

Detective Constable Lauren Drysdale from Hart & Rushmoor CID commented: “This was a terrifying incident for those in the area at the time and clearly the outcome could have been a lot worse.

“Our officers were quickly on the scene and swiftly made an arrest shortly after the incident.

“I would like to thank my colleagues for their effort throughout the investigation to ensure that Harrison Munday was charged and put through the courts.”
