Five charged with attempted murder in Southampton

Five individuals have been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing incident in St Mary’s, Southampton. The charges relate to an assault on a 45-year-old local man who sustained serious leg injuries.

Hampshire Constabulary has brought charges against five people in connection with a knife attack that occurred in St Mary Street on Sunday evening, 14 December.

The victim, a 45-year-old Southampton resident, was stabbed in both legs shortly after 8.45pm. Whilst his injuries are described as serious, medical authorities have confirmed they are not life-threatening.

Following their investigation, detectives have charged the following individuals with attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, and criminal damage:

  • Sheraz Ahmadzai, aged 24, of no fixed address
  • Irfan Ahmedzai, aged 19, of Kent Street, Southampton
  • Three youths from Southampton aged 17, 16, and 15

The 15-year-old has additionally been charged with possession of a bladed article.

All five defendants have been remanded in custody and appeared before Southampton Magistrates’ Court this morning, Wednesday 18 December.

Local neighbourhood policing teams have increased patrols in the St Mary’s area since the incident occurred. Officers have confirmed these enhanced patrols will continue over the coming days.

Police are encouraging residents with concerns or information about the incident to approach officers on patrol.
