Michelle Louise Grundy, 46, from Chandler’s Ford has been sentenced to 30 weeks imprisonment following two shoplifting offences and breaching a community order. The Falkland Road resident appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 19 December.
Grundy committed theft on two separate occasions at the Co-op store on Falkland Court, Chandler’s Ford. The incidents occurred on Friday, 27 December 2024, and Thursday, 16 January 2025, where she stole meat and various other products.
Following the sentencing, Sergeant Dan Baines from Eastleigh Neighbourhood Policing Team expressed satisfaction with the outcome. He stated that placing Grundy behind bars prevents her from committing additional offences.
The sergeant highlighted that the sentence should provide reassurance to the affected business, knowing the perpetrator can no longer target their premises. He emphasised that Grundy showed complete disregard for her community order conditions, which the court reflected in the custodial sentence.
“She must now face the consequences of her actions and will have time, including the Christmas period, to reflect on her crimes and their impact,” Sergeant Baines commented.
He reaffirmed the team’s dedication to tackling theft, stating the case demonstrates their commitment to dealing seriously with offenders. The neighbourhood policing team pledged to continue working relentlessly with local businesses to apprehend, charge and prosecute criminals.
Authorities encourage the public to report incidents via 101 or through the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website. Emergency situations and crimes in progress should be reported immediately by calling 999.
Business owners can access crime prevention resources and shoplifting protection advice on the constabulary’s website.
