Chandler’s Ford man jailed for child sex assault in Eastleigh

A 59-year-old man from Chandler’s Ford has been sentenced to three years and four months imprisonment for sexually assaulting a child under 13 and indecent exposure in Eastleigh.

Robert Grant, of Catmint Close, received his sentence at Southampton Crown Court on Friday (18 July).

The crimes, to which he had entered guilty pleas at the same court on Monday 17 March, occurred in Eastleigh on Wednesday 27 March 2024.

In addition to his custodial sentence, Grant has been issued with a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, a five-year restraining order, and must register with police indefinitely.

PC Jen Grace from the Child Abuse Investigation Team said: “I am delighted that justice has been delivered for the young victim and their family in this matter, and that Grant is now imprisoned where he should be.

“I want to commend the young victim for their bravery and resilience throughout this process.

“I would also like to acknowledge everyone involved in this case who helped achieve this result. Their dedication and efforts have made this outcome possible.

“Whilst I understand this verdict cannot erase the victim and family’s memories of Grant’s actions, I sincerely hope it enables them to progress, knowing he cannot harm other children.”

Speaking to other victims of sexual offences, PC Grace added: “I hope this sentence demonstrates to victims that they will be heard when reporting such incidents to us.

“We urge other victims to contact us. We treat these allegations with utmost seriousness and are committed to prosecuting offenders.

“This case sends a clear warning to other perpetrators that we will work relentlessly to ensure you face justice.”
