Aldershot Woman Jailed Five Years for Burglary and Robbery

A 46-year-old woman has been sentenced to five years and eight months in prison after stealing £1,000 from a home and attempting to snatch car keys from two men at a retail park in Aldershot.

Julie Walls, of Hogs Back, Seale, appeared before Winchester Crown Court on Thursday 12 March, where she pleaded guilty to all charges against her.

Walls stole a pouch containing £1,000 from a property on Wilson Road on Sunday 20 July last year. She gained entry by knocking on the door and telling the occupant she felt unwell and needed a glass of water, before fleeing with the cash.

Days earlier, on Wednesday 16 July, Walls attempted to steal car keys from two separate men at Westgate Retail Park. In one incident, she got into the passenger seat of a vehicle, behaved in a threatening manner and assaulted the driver while trying to take his keys. A nearby officer heard the car horn and quickly detained Walls, who was found carrying a pair of scissors.

She was charged with burglary, theft, attempted robbery, attempted theft and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Detective Constable Chris Phillips, from the Northern Area Crime Team, said: “Julie Walls’ behaviour was completely unacceptable on both days in July. Burglary is one of the most intrusive crimes. It can have untold, long-lasting impacts on victims and no one should have to feel unsafe in their own home.”

He added: “I hope this sentence allows the victims to move forward, knowing that Walls will spend a considerable amount of time behind bars for what she did.”
