Steven Carver has been sentenced to 32 weeks in prison after attacking two police officers in Basingstoke. The 42-year-old, of no fixed address, admitted two counts of assaulting officers and criminal damage charges.
The incident occurred when police responded to reports of an intoxicated individual on Western Way at approximately 1.40am on Tuesday, 8 July.
Carver became aggressive during the encounter and attacked one officer at the scene. He subsequently spat in a police car and custody cell before assaulting a second officer.
The defendant entered guilty pleas and received his sentence at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court yesterday (9 July).

Inspector Charlie Ilderton, of Basingstoke Town, commented: “No emergency worker should face violence. It is not, and never will be, part of the job description.
“I hope this outcome demonstrates that such behaviour will not be tolerated in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.”
