Portsmouth FC’s first team development coach Zesh Rehman has departed the club to pursue a new opportunity in Saudi Arabia, the Championship side confirmed on Sunday.
The former Fulham, QPR and Bradford defender ends a three-and-a-half-year tenure on the south coast, during which Pompey secured the League One title and consolidated their Championship status.
Rehman, who represented Pakistan at international level, expressed gratitude for his time at Fratton Park.
“After three-and-a-half wonderful years at Pompey, it’s time for a new chapter,” he said. “Thank you to everyone at the club for the wonderful memories.
“I will always appreciate the opportunity Richard Hughes and Andy Cullen gave me to transition from the academy to the first team. The journey from winning League One to maintaining Championship status was special to be a part of.”
The 42-year-old praised his colleagues and wished the squad continued success.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all the staff to help develop players, regardless of age or status, in the squad,” Rehman added. “I wish all the players the best for the rest of the season and their future careers. My family and I will always have fond memories of the community and city.”
Blues manager John Mousinho paid tribute to the departing coach.
“We’re disappointed to say goodbye to Zesh, but understand that he wanted to take up an exciting new challenge,” Mousinho said. “He’s been an integral part of the coaching team ever since I arrived at the club – a diligent worker who is popular with players and staff alike.
“I know that Zesh will always be welcome back at Fratton Park and we wish him every success with his future endeavours.”
Rehman joined Portsmouth in summer 2022 as lead professional development phase coach within the academy setup. He was promoted to the senior coaching staff on an interim basis following Danny and Nicky Cowley’s departure.

When Mousinho assumed head coach duties in January 2023, Rehman retained his position before being formally appointed to the first team development coach role.
Portsmouth FC thanked Rehman for his contributions and wished him well in his new venture.
